Portrait of Dee Gardner, potter and founder of The Village Kiln

Dee Gardner

Dee first began throwing ceramics over three decades ago at Utah Tech University.

Balancing a career in technology with teaching in the Visual Art and Design Department at Salt Lake Community College since 2015, Dee returned deeply to the wheel by establishing a home studio and kiln in 2024.

Working in both stoneware and porcelain, Dee creates intentional, functional wares designed for daily use: pieces meant to be held, eaten from, and enjoyed. Classic wheel-thrown forms are paired with custom glaze formulations blended with underglazes, to enjoy the flow of the craft.

What guides the work

Core values

Made to be used

Good pottery earns its place on the table, in the kitchen and in the hand.

Honest craft

Every form is thrown by hand on the wheel, and the marks of the maker stay visible.

Curious glazes

Custom formulas and underglazes are tested, blended and fired to see what the kiln gives back.
